Military Spouse Scholarship For Military ID-Carrying Uniformed Services’ Spouses At USA In 2010

Scholarship Description:
National Military Family Association scholarship funds are awarded only to military ID-carrying Uniformed Services’ spouses (active duty, retiree, Reserve, National Guard, and/or survivor); If notified you have been selected for a scholarship, you must provide a copy of current military dependent ID within one week, or your scholarship funds will be awarded to another card-carrying applicant. If at any point you are no longer considered to be a spouse of a service member, you must notify us immediately.

Eligibility:

If at any point you are no longer considered to be a spouse of a service member, you must notify us immediately.If selected for a scholarship award, applicants must be able to enroll in a school or vocational program and show proof to us by April 1, 2011. Otherwise, the funding will be given to another military spouse in the process of pursuing her education.

Scholarships are for one year only. Every year, previous awardees must reapply for funding.Any applicant or scholarship awardee who is no longer a military ID carrying spouse must notify the Association immediately. Awardees who attempt to use scholarship funds after turning in their military ID cards without notifying the National Military Family Association of their change in status may be required to reimburse the Association for any funds used. Funding is intended only for military spouses with current military ID cards.
National Military Family Association Members of the Board of Governors, Board of Advisors, Representatives, volunteers, employees, and their immediate families (spouses, parents, children, and their spouses or children) or those living in the same household, whether related or not, are not eligible to participate.

Notification:
Scholarship award letters will be e-mailed to scholarship recipients no later than March 15, 2011, and winners will be announced online in June 2011.
* If selected as a scholarship recipient, you must e-mail or fax copies (no originals accepted) of the following: Copy of current military ID Card/DEERS card (front)
AND
* The name and address of the accredited university, college, or trade school at which you are registered.
* Home mailing address where a check can be mailed on June 1, 2011.

Job description
This project is part of an ERC* (European Research Council) project funded by the European Union, The project is based at the University of Groningen, but involves field work in Finland, Germany, the UK and The Netherlands. It will involve interviews to record the experiences of posted migrants and ‘native’ workers who work with them, and as well as interviews of managers, union officials, and policy makers. There will also be a series of policy interviews aimed at understanding the political/legal changes taking place in the European Union, associated with changes in the sovereignty norm.

The postdoctoral researcher will travel extensively and conduct semi- and unstructured interviews of workers, trade unionists, managers and policy makers. He or she will be expected to make an intellectual contribution to the development of the research project, to publish research articles as part of the research team, and to help train and direct the teams junior members (graduate and undergraduate) in their research.

Requirements
- PhD degree (or near completion) PhD dissertation research in an area such as migration, migrant work, trade union strategy, transnational subcontracting and agency work, EU politics or something similar
- at least published in peer reviewed venue(s)
- Fluency in English, ability to converse in the language of one or more of the field work countries, and/or in Eastern European language(s), is highly desirable
- organizational qualities and good communication skills
- willingness to work as part of a research team.

Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary, according to university standards in the Netherlands, depending on research experience and qualifications and ranges between 3,195 and 4,374 gross per month for a full-time position. In addition, there are a 8% holiday allowance and a 8,3% end of year bonus. The position is initially offered for a two year period.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme phd computer science

Established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD programmes in Hong Kong's institutions.

Eligibility

Those who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in Hong Kong institutions funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), irrespective of their country of origin and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.

The Fellowship

The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and a conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for the awardees for a period of three years. About 135 PhD Fellowships will be awarded each academic year1. For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support may be provided by the chosen institutions. Selection Panels

Shortlisted applications, subject to their areas of studies, will be reviewed by one of the two HKPF Selection Panels with experts in the relevant broad areas -- one for science, medicine, engineering and technology and another one for humanities, social science and business studies.


Selection Criteria

While the academic excellence is of prime consideration, the Selection Panels will take into account, but is not limited to, the four yardsticks below for the selection of candidates:

Academic excellence;
Research ability and potential;
Communication, and interpersonal skills; and
Leadership abilities.
Application Process

Applicants may choose up to two programmes in one or two institutions for PhD study in their HKPFS applications. They are also required to submit application(s) for PhD admission to the relevant institution(s) directly for their selected programme(s). Applicants are therefore required to fully comply with the admission requirements of their selected institutions and programmes. The HKPFS 2011/12 will call for applications in September 2010. Detailed arrangements for the application process will be announced later.
